We know. Visiting a church for the first time can be a scary experience. We find that knowing what to expect can make things a little easier so here is what you can expect.
THE DRESS CODE
Some people choose to dress up, some people come casual – just come as you are. When you walk through the doors for the first time, we hope you will encounter a friendly and relaxed environment, with a sense of real community. Our coffee and tea bar is open before and after each service, so feel free to head over to the fellowship hall grab your favorite drink. Some call it praise, some call it
worship, some call them
hymns, psalms, or spiritual songs.
Whatever you call it, we do it each week.
They are all about God and most of them are
sung to God. We
believe He want to hear
our voices. He made them after all.
But
don’t worry, the singing part is optional, so jump in at your own pace.
Toward the end of this time, we
typically invite people to
give their tithes and offerings. Just so we are clear, giving is
intended for
people who call St Helens Missionary Baptist Church their church home,
not our
guests. So please don’t feel obligated.
Every week we spend around 40 minutes
listening to and
learning about the Bible. We
believe
that it is the primary way that God speaks to Mankind to this day. Now, for some of you,
learning about the
Bible might sound boring.
While we
can’t promise you will agree with everything we say, we can promise you
that
you won’t be bored. Try
it and you’ll
like it.
We believe so strongly in what God
teaches us through the
Bible, that we dedicate a few minutes (as much as is needed) every week
to
respond. We
typically spend some time in
prayer and personal reflection. We
even
have people available to pray with you, if you are open to that.
